AMS Important Dates

Welcome Atascadero Middle School students, families, and staff!

We hope you are enjoying the summer months and eagerly anticipating the beginning of the new school year.

We are thrilled to welcome back the returning AMS students and we want to extend a special welcome to the newest members of our AMS community, our incoming 6th and 7th grade students. With the transition of all 6th grade classes from the AUSD elementary schools to Atascadero Middle School we are now complete.

We have developed a unique hybrid model for our incoming 6th graders that will blend nicely with our 7th and 8th grade programs, ultimately providing an outstanding and cutting-edge educational experience for all. The staff at Atascadero Middle School are committed to providing an excellent transition and we will work tirelessly to ensure this happens.

Not only do we have phenomenal educational programs at Atascadero Middle School but we have a brand-new, state of the art facility. The campus is impeccable with the 56,000 square foot building, modernized classrooms, labs, athletic and electives facilities throughout. We are extremely thankful for such a beautiful and well-designed campus to educate our students and partner with our community.

It is an honor and a privilege to serve as the Atascadero Middle School principal. I am proud of what has been accomplished thus far and I look forward to working alongside our staff members, students, and families to make this the best school year yet. Enjoy the remaining days of summer.

Warmly,

Mrs. Jessica Lloyd, Principal

WELCOME STAFF:

We have a dynamic staff and we are thrilled to welcome many new teachers and staff members this year. Beginning with the 6th grade team we would like to welcome Lindsay Bentz, Heidi Cooper, Denise Moore, Holly Payne, and Rebekah Penland. They have been hard at work preparing their classrooms and curriculum for our incoming 6th graders. We would also like to extend a warm welcome to Sarah Iba and Lori Pruitt. They have joined the 7th grade science department.  Matthew Avila will teach 8th grade math, Christina Little will teach 8th grade U.S. History, and Bonnie Drysdale will teach an additional Severely Handicap (SH) class on the AMS campus. All are dedicated and talented professionals.

With our growing campus and large student population we have been fortunate to add an additional Assistant Principal, Mr. William Wallace. He previously served as an AMS academic counselor and has become an excellent addition to our team. We would also like to welcome Allyson Dexter as one of two AMS academic counselors, the talented Jenna Lee as the new AMS psychologist, and Mercedes Silva as the AMS full-time LVN. Each of these staff members will be an excellent addition to the AMS family.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL INFORMATION:

Students return to school on Wednesday, August 23rd. The first bell rings at 8:11 a.m. and the tardy bell rings at 8:15 a.m. All teachers will stand at the door of their classroom to welcome the students. All administration and support staff will also be in the hallways to welcome our students and ensure they confidently find their classrooms. We hope to make the first few days of school a comfortable and smooth transition for our students.

STUDENT DROP OFF & PICK UP:

Students may be dropped off on the sidewalk of Lewis Avenue or West Mall Avenue. Once dropped off students can safely walk through the front gates of the AMS campus. Please be conscientious and patient as we experience a lot of traffic before and after school each day. There are many students crossing the streets and keeping them safe is our top priority.

The bike racks have been moved to the front of the school on Lewis Avenue. Bike racks are no longer located on the interior of the campus within the locked gates. Bring your bike locks! Scooters and skateboards can be dropped off each morning and will be stored in a closet on campus. Staff members will direct students to these storage areas.

BACK TO SCHOOL INFORMATION:

We look forward to seeing you on Thursday, August 31st at 6:00 p.m. for Back-to-School Night. This is a great opportunity to meet the AMS teachers and experience moving from one class to the next. Families will become acquainted with the campus as they follow their student’s daily schedule and move between classes during passing periods!
