We have exciting events taking place at Atascadero Middle School! Open House will be held this Thursday, April 6th. An orientation for incoming 6th graders will begin at 5:00 p.m. in the Baro Gym and an orientation for incoming 7th graders will begin at 5:30 p.m. Following the orientations the talented AMS band and choir will perform at 6:00 p.m., also in the Baro Gym. Classrooms will open at 6:30 p.m. It will be an excellent evening that celebrates the hard work of the AMS students and teachers! We look forward to seeing you there!
AMS is also well underway with another fantastic track season. Over 100 student athletes are participating from grades 6-8. Go Saints! Be sure to join us for the second annual AMS Splash of Color Fun Run on April 29th at 10:00 a.m. We are in need of parent volunteers for track meets and the Splash of Color Fun Run. SMARTER BALANCED SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENTS (SBAC)
6th grade SBAC will be held April 24th - 28th. 7th and 8th grade SBAC will be held May 1st - May 19th. Please try to avoid scheduling any appointments during this window. Please also make sure your student is rested, eats a healthy breakfast and arrives each day on time. More information about the SBAC state assessment will be distributed through email.

BOOK WARS OBSTACLE COURSE
BOOK WARS OBSTACLE COURSE presented by Saint's Block Event Planning will be open for all students and incoming 6th graders at Open House, April 6 from 7:00-7:30 near Room 305. Students who have read the Book Wars books will have an advantage but anyone can try! Lowest time will receive pizza lunch for student and 3 friends.Can you meet the challenge?
LUNCH WITH A LAWYER
On Friday, April 7th, we're rolling out our "Lunch With a Lawyer" series during lunch, where AMS students get to have lunch with professionals from numerous career paths. For the first session students can come to the library during their lunch to meet with and hear a presentation from local attorney Janet Wallace. She'll cover topics like how to prepare for becoming a lawyer, what grades you need, what college majors to choose, what law school is like, as well as talking about some of the different types of law jobs that exist. It is sure to be informative and fun. Other sessions in the series will follow each Friday in April and will include interviews with a Cal Poly head coach and a successful business entrepreneur; more info to come. Students can sign up with their counselor to attend!
The choir has a busy month in April. They will be performing at 4 elementary schools as well as for our 6th graders here on campus. Plus, in addition to singing at Open House on April 6 and participating in our All-District Choral Concert on the 20th, they will compete in a choral festival on the 29th and spend the day at Six Flags Magic Mountain!
Homework Club is available Monday - Thursday from 3pm - 4pm in the following classrooms for 7th and 8th graders:
For 6th graders, Homework Club is available Monday - Thursday from 3pm - 3:30pm. No sign-up is necessary, just show up. Once a student is there, the student must stay until 3:30.

Every student received a 5% everyday, all day Grocery Outlet Donation Card.- Valid until June 30, 2017 please show your 5% Atascadero Middle School PTO card and 5% of your sales everyday, all day will be donated to our PTO. Please ask for extra cards at the AMS front office and give them to family and friends to use.

Yearbooks are for sale in the office for $50. We have pre-sold most of our yearbooks already. Yes, you should purchase one BEFORE the end of the year! If you wait too long, they may all be pre-purchased and you will miss out! Buy yours in the office today for $50 so that you will be guaranteed a yearbook in June!
POSITIVE DISCIPLINE PARENTING WORKSHOP
...for parents of teenagers. Learn what to do about: Rules and Consequences, Handling Disagreements, Chores and Responsibilities, Letting Go, Family Time Together, and Homework and School Hassles. Saturday, April 22nd from 9am to 4pm @ AMS Library. Fee is $10 for one person or $15 for a couple. Please see the attached flyer for more information.
