AMS Important Dates


Reminder that there is no school on Monday, March 12 due to a staff Professional Development day.  School will resume on Tuesday, March 13.


Attention 8th graders – This Thursday March 8th we will be taking our Panoramic Picture. Stop by the office to pick up an order form if you would like to purchase a picture.




First practice: February 26th @ 6pm - Middle School Gym

  • Practices: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 6-7:30pm

  • Must have a sports physical on file with the office

  • Need to show up with wrestling shoes

  • Grades 6, 7, 8 from AMS and FAA

  • The league is for all levels of wrestlers, beginning to experienced.

Just because children are born into this digital age doesn't mean they have the tools and knowledge to be good digital citizens. Eileen Calandro teaches parents how to feel comfortable talking with their kids about social media and create parenting strategies for their families.

Eileen Calandro: "I always say you never step in the same "Social Media River" twice. The platforms and apps change faster than the latest fashion trends. Knowing everything doesn't need to be the goal. What's important is teaching parents how to help their children behave safely and appropriately on social media. Cal Poly is pleased to present the 11th annual EPIC — Engineering Possibilities in College — an enriching and fun summer camp for students currently in grades 6-11th. At EPIC, campers explore the world of engineering in hands-on labs at Cal Poly. This year’s program offers four residential sessions to maximize the campers’ week long university experience.


Students currently in grades 6-11 are eligible to apply for the EPIC 2018 summer camp. Camp dates are:

July 8-13:  Session 1 — Middle School Day Camp & Residential Program Option (grades 6-8)

July 15-20:  Session 2 — High School Residential Program (grades 9-11)     

July 22-27:  Session 3 — High School Residential Program (grades 9-11)   

July 29-August 3: Session 4 — High School Residential Program (grades 9-11)     

EPIC strives to interest ALL students in engineering, but especially those who are female, first-generation-college-bound, and/or under-represented multicultural students. Ideal candidates have good grades and abilities in math and science, with little or no exposure to engineering. Encouragement from you may spark their interest in EPIC summer camp and ultimately inspire their choosing engineering as a career path.

Your cooperation is greatly appreciated! Before and after school drop-off/pick-up is congested with the release of AMS, FAA and the bus hub. Please be conscientious of the many students (elementary through high school age students) crossing the street and the high volume of cars. Students and adults must use the crosswalks staffed with crossing guards. In order to keep everyone safe patience is key. Thank you for your help!


6th Grade

6th Grade Homework Club has started!  Homework Club will run from 3:00 - 3:30pm. The weekly schedule for each day and the room/teacher that it will be held are:
Monday - Mrs. Payne - Room #403
Tuesday - Mrs. O'Malley - Room #304
Wednesday - Mrs. Cooper - Room #402
Thursday - Ms. Jaehn - Room #305

Please Remember if your child attends homework club they must stay the entire time unless a parent/guardian calls the office to excuse them. Homework Club is optional, but would be a great opportunity for your child.

If your child does plan on attending let Mrs. Ellis-Weit know via e-mail so we can get a head count or if you have further questions.

7th & 8th Grade

Homework Club is back!  Starting Monday, Oct 2nd.  As always, Homework Club will occur M-Th, from 3pm - 4pm.

We will meet weekly on Wednesday in room 1201 with Mrs. Parham from 3PM-4PM.  6th, 7th, and 8th graders are all invited. (Room 1201 is the room closest to the Band room.)

Atascadero Middle School invites all families to become an active participant in their child’s education by joining AMS PTO.  Your membership supports academic programs, dances, athletics, classroom supplies, library books, new technology, spirit/leadership activities, and more! 100% of your Membership donation goes to AMS PTO! Grocery Outlet  A big THANK YOU to Grocery Outlet and to everyone who uses their 5% Grocery Outlet Donation Card when shopping! AMS PTO has received nearly $3,500 from Grocery Outlet this school year alone! Don't have a Grocery Outlet card? More are coming soon! A reminder that 10% Tuesdays are the 2nd Tuesday of each month - this month it is March 13th. Use your 5% card and our school gets 10% back!

Friendship Grams Watch for information about Friendship Grams! Students can purchase a treat and write a special note to be delivered to a friend at school on March 29th.

PTO Meeting Wednesday, 3/21 - PTO Meeting at 3:30pm in the AMS Library. All are welcome!

AMS PTO Spring Dance  Save the Date!- Friday, April 27th 7:00-9:00pm
Watch for details as we get closer! This dance is open to all AMS students. We are still working on a theme and we will need lots of help from parents: ticket sales, decorating, concessions, Minute-to-Win-It games and chaperones! AMS PTO is supporting our school with a Classroom Supplies Drive!
If you wish to participate, you may donate items or make a monetary donation for use in purchasing supplies.  Either way, you will be helping us fulfill the wish list of supplies our teachers and students will need during the coming school year.  Donations may be delivered at any time to the box in the school office. Any checks should be payable to “AMS PTO”. Your contributions are greatly appreciated!


BOOK WARS 2018 will be held on Thursday, May 24... become an "AMS READING WARRIOR" and qualify to take part. See your English teacher, Ms. Garcia in the library, or Mrs. O'Malley in Room 304 for more details.
